San Miguel de Allende
San Miguel de Allende is one of our favorite places in the world — colorful streets, amazing food, beautiful old buildings, and the happiest energy. The historic center is actually a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is why the cobblestone streets and architecture are so well preserved. Because of those cobblestones, comfortable shoes for daytime exploring are a must!
Weather in Early May
Highs
Low-mid 80s°F
Lows
Low 60s°F
Hot during the day (especially with the altitude) and cooler at night — pack layers!
San Miguel sits at about 6,200 feet, so you may feel the altitude a bit when you first arrive. Nothing drastic but drink lots of water and wear sunscreen!
Getting Around
Most of the restaurants, shops, and rooftops are in Centro, the walkable heart of the city. You can get pretty much anywhere on foot, but Ubers and taxis are also readily available (and will be sent for all wedding events so you can have freedom in footwear!)
I would not recommend renting a car. The streets are narrow, parking is tricky, and you truly won't need one.
Exploring the City
Restaurants
Tostévere
Tiny, cozy, insanely good. You'll definitely want to book ahead.
Quince Rooftop
European vibes, fun energy, and amazing views.
Atrio
One of our favorites — great food and a perfect view of the Parroquia.
Pirules Garden Kitchen
Really nice for a laid-back meal, especially if you're staying at the Rosewood.
And truly, there are hundreds of rooftops in Centro, and the views are always gorgeous — you can't go wrong.
